ALOHA INTERNATIONAL'S 33RD ANNUAL
MAKAHIKI FESTIVAL AND CONFERENCE 2006

Appreciation and Celebration

Makahiki Registration

In ancient Hawaii there was a harvest celebration called Makahiki which began around mid-November and lasted about four months. Throughout the islands it was a time of peace, thanksgiving, sharing and preparation for the new year. It was also a time filled with games and contests, dancing and feasting. The modern celebration of Makahiki on Kauai by Aloha International begins on the Sunday before the American Thanksgiving Day, and continues through the following Sunday. Over the years it has had many forms and venues, always with the intention of gathering together family and friends to share great moments.

The Festival, which includes a luau and entertainment, takes place on the American Thanksgiving Day (see below). It is open to the public, but attendance is limited to 100 and tickets must be purchased.

The Conference consists of workshops and special events for participants interested in Huna and Hawaiian culture, and it includes the Festival luau. The cost of the conference is kept low so that more people can attend. This event is a fund-raiser for Aloha International and no teacher or leader or entertainer receives any compensation for their participation.

Click here for information on the cost of the conference. Each evening or half-day workshop is US$45.00 for non-conference participants.
