This picture doesn't do her justice, but she didn't like being in the spotlight, so it's the only one I could find. She was an amazing woman... a good friend, a hula sister, a powerful healer. She never put herself forward, but she was always there at Hula, Talk Story, and Healing Circle, and always willing to help any way that she could. This letter from Alakai Günes Kale, Germany, expresses well how all of us felt about Pat. We'll miss you, Pat! To the Family and Friends of Pat Hering: Some days ago I heard that Pat has started her journey to other realms. I was sad to hear that because I had hoped to see her in this form again some day on Kauai. In the last days I thought about her often - how I met her the first time in January 2000 and saw her quite often then until April 2002 when I returned to Hamburg, Germany. I wish to share my memories with you about the woman I met. I often sat beside her in Talk Stories or Healing Circles. She didn't talk much that woman but her energy was - "wow". I sometimes teased her about it and then she said with that special smile of hers and this light shining in her eyes: "I am a double scorpio, you know." Wherever she was in a group of people, she stabilized and harmonized that group with her sheer presence. I see her dancing the hula, laughing and enjoying it from the core of her being. I see her arriving at the Healing Circle in a silent dignified allure and doing amazing healing work week after week without losing a word about it. She just sat there and did it. I see her breathtaking smile of a young girl, I see the wise soul, her knowledge of many cultures and many ways from old times. Her face showed. I see her communicating with the spirit world and souls of the realms she now traveled to. I see her simple joy in colours and flowers, her dignity in her every movement. Ah, how she walked, I relish that memory - head high, dignified her every step. Oh, how I loved to see her walk! To watch her was to understand the words that true humbleness is true pride and vice versa. Pat did not talk much but when she said something it was a precious pearl of wisdom and healing. Whenever she said something to me my ears were wide open and my soul receptive. Only sitting beside her in some times of transformation and associated emotions gave me solace and the strength and trust to move on. I loved her energy and stamina so much that I chose whenever possible to sit beside her. We never talked much about that or about her past life. I felt that she has seen a lot in this life and mastered many challenges. I know she is a loyal friend who stood by those she chose as a friend. In silence she was true to what she believed in. I feel blessed to know her. Yes, I say know her because we are all energy, light and love - and that never gets lost though the form may change. We may have different beliefs and experiences about what is going on after passing. I will see Pat in the effortless grace of a flower, hear her voice in the wind, see her smile in the face of a beautiful child, meet her in the dream world. The tears that are falling are ours because we will just miss her in that unique form in which we have met her. I love you, Pat, and I will never forget the woman I met in January 2000 on Kauai. Alakai Lynne Volker shares: Early last spring I proposed some new classes to the director of the massage school where I teach Kahi Loa three or four times a year. I thought she'd pick one but she accepted all three. They'll start in 2006. I'm very excited about this expanded opportunity. One class is for a second level Kahi Loa where we'll go deeper into the ideas behind illness presented in Imagineering for Health. For instance, that body malfunction is a reflection of conflicts within, such as, defend/don't defend, retreat/don't retreat, etc. I will also add color breathing, energy enhancement with tools like shells or crystals, the huna coin, breath work, etc. (They already know the seven strokes from level 1). It's an eight hour class so I'll have to work on how much I can present and still have time for a full practice session - something the students wanted in the first class, but didn't have time for. The next class that was accepted will be based on Serge's ideas in Imagineering for Health that he dubbed somography. However I was only allotted four hours for the class. It will be a challenge to accomplish what I want, but I think I can do it. The class will present the ideas about the four main body zones, plus the right/left split, and how they give clues to where our conflicts lie. The last class accepted was an intro to Bach Flower remedies. This is not huna but I can work in the first few principles while giving the students a healing tool which is gentle, versatile and easy to use - very pono. WEDDINGS!
