Aloha International's hula halau at the Emmalani Festival on Kauai.
From Alakai Susan Pa'iniu Floyd: I was honored and grateful to finally be able to accompany our Halau to a free public presentation reenacting Queen Emma's journey to Koke'e. Our Halau has been performing at this festival under Fern's leadership for about 7 years. As you know I have been teaching in Europe every October for the last 20 years and so was unable to attend. We were blessed that Loea Hewett taught us last February (in the same Koke'e meadow) a mele he wrote for Queen Emma. Little did he know when he was writing to honor his ancestor, that one year later he would be drawing on her example of how to continue living after the loss of a child. She lost her 4 year old son and a year later her husband, the King, and she somehow could go on. Loea lost his 31 year old son Kuakapu January 19th of this year. We researched on line and in books all that we could find about Queen Emma's life and it really made a difference in our experience of being a part of this festival. We could feel how much of a challenge it probably was to be in the Alaka'i Swamp over night. Even though we had very good weather, in any weather, it can still be cold at the 4000 foot elevation. It took us 2 hours to get there from the north shore, just imagine how long and strenuous it must have been to ride all the way up from Lawai on horseback, no cars in 1871!
In addition to the kahiko mele "He Aloha Emalani, Ke Kuini E" we danced to the awesome sound of Beverly Kauanui's band, Kaua'i Hemolele I Ka Malie and E Ku'u Lei Makua ( My Parent Lei.........a mele honoring our Parents and since both Fern and my mothers were there in the Kupuna tent alongside the Queen and her entourage, it was very appropriate!). Fern and her sister Carol from New York played ukulele with Aunty Bev's ukulele group for an hour before the Queen's entrance. Nahenahe, sweet sounds!
From Stephanie Doll, DMT Teacher and Kino Mana Teacher: Hi, I am still alive, and I am realy good with my life. Now I have the chance to bring Huna more in the world, I got new conections in Spain, Switzerland and also in Greece. Next year I start in Greece together with a wonderful lady, we work with Lomi and more in a Retreat Center on Kreta. I do courses in Lomi Lomi Wellness, in Switzerland, I do that by the Rules from Susan, including chanting and Huna Principles (a lot of people want to learn this way for working in Spa), so I can use my big experiences from the 13 years working in Spa. I miss you all and I want to see you once again on the Islands of Hawaii.
From Cornelia Maria Schoenenberger, DMT Practitioner: I want to share my experience in using the Dynamind Technique with children. I do the DMT with children by turning it into a story with the child as the king and the body as his kingdom. I did it many years ago with children who are very active and full of rage (and full of love!).
- The Practice
- 1. Story: The King (child) is holding the golden ball (The Gesture).
- 2. Story: His power is flowing through his entire kingdom (breathe from the crown to the earth).
- 3. The king gives the order: "I have fear,( rage etc.) and that can change, the fear will disappear, now!"
- 4.The music of celebration is coming (The Tapping).
- 5.The king has new power and gives the power breath to the crown and then to the entire kingdom (ending Pikopiko).
The story can be varied according to the problem being worked on.
